The University of Sussex is delighted to honour its much-loved former music lecturer and organist, Dr John Birch (1929-2012), with these four named scholarships. The aim of these scholarships is to support talented musicians to continue to develop and perform while studying at Sussex. This scholarship is open to all current undergraduate and postgraduate students at Sussex, whether or not they are studying Music.
What you get
£800 cash award. In addition, scholars will receive access to the music practice rooms in the School of Media, Arts and Humanities (MAH). All applicants who reach the audition stage, regardless of the success of their application, will be offered the opportunity to be part of a list of performers who are willing to perform at events around campus or are interested in collaboration with other musicians.

Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
Be an applicant or current student at the University of Sussex (open to applicants for 2024 entry)
You must also be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in your chosen instrument. Holding a Grade 8 (or equivalent) qualification is desirable, but not mandatory.
