Join Professor Stephen Wilkins on his quest to uncover how the first stars, black holes, and galaxies formed and evolved.
“For the first few hundred million years of the Universe’s history, it was completely dark — a period we call the cosmological dark ages. The birth of the first stars and black holes brought light to the cosmos for the very first time.”
Professor Wilkins leads the First Light Group, which explores the formation of the earliest galaxies using cutting-edge observatories such as the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), alongside large-scale supercomputer simulations of entire universes.
“By comparing observations from telescopes like Webb with predictions from our simulations, we can begin to reveal the fundamental physics that drives how galaxies form and evolve.”
SUSSEX UNIVERSE is a FREE public science lecture series hosted by the University of Sussex. Each talk focus on a different topic ranging across sciences, engineering and medicine. Enjoy an evening of cutting-edge science followed by an audience Q&A with the scientists.
