As the sun comes out and the days get longer, summer is a great time to explore the campus and the city. It’s the perfect season to take a walk through the South Downs, plan a hike to the Seven Sisters, or simply enjoy being outside in nature. Whether you’re staying in Brighton or heading elsewhere for the break, we encourage you to make the most of this time to recharge.
We also recognise that summer isn’t a break for everyone. Some of you might still be working on your dissertations, planning for the next academic year, starting internships, job hunting, or beginning new roles. Life can feel busy, and amidst everything, it’s important to check in with yourself. Taking a moment each day to pause, reflect, and acknowledge how you’re feeling can make a real difference to your wellbeing.
Across the summer break, apart from bank holidays, the Student Wellbeing Team is still here to support you. You may see pop-up wellbeing stalls on campus over the summer- more information and updates will be shared on our Instagram page. If you have any questions/ concerns, you can log an enquiry via MySussex or visit the Welcome Desk in the Student Centre, open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
A few important things to remember:
- Please note that the therapy service hours may be different during the break. The service will run Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, with no evening sessions over the summer.
- Togetherall continues to be available 24/7 throughout the break. It’s a free and anonymous online platform where you can connect with others, share what you're going through, and access helpful resources.
- Shout is another resource you can turn to if you’re feeling overwhelmed. It is the UK’s first and only free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging service for anyone who is struggling to cope. Powered by the charity Mental Health Innovations, Shout also supports The Mix, which offers free, anonymous online advice about key issues in young people’s lives. If you need someone to talk to, text 'SHOUT' to 85258 at any time.
As always, your wellbeing matters. Stay tuned to our Instagram for tips on looking after yourself this summer- we’ll be sharing practical advice and support over the coming week.
