A Global Perspective on Antisemitism and the Left

In a series of webinars from the Sussex Weidenfeld Institute for Jewish Studies, academic experts discuss the phenomenon of left antisemitism and how it plays out in the UK, Germany and the US.

Episode 1

In the first episode, A Global Perspective on Antisemitism and the Left — UK, Dr Dave Rich, author of ‘The Left’s Jewish Problem: Jeremy Corbyn, Israel and Antisemitism’ and Head of Policy at the Community Security Trust (the body which seeks to protect the Jewish community from antisemitic attacks) discusses the issue with Dr Matt Bolton, co-author of ‘Corbynism: A Critical Approach’ who is currently based at the Centre for Antisemitism Research at the Technical University of Berlin.

The discussion is chaired by Ivor Gaber, Professor of Political Journalism at the University of Sussex and a Fellow at the Sussex Institute and he is joined for the questioning by Professor Gideon Reuveni, the Director of the Institute and Dr David Juenger an Institute Fellow.

Episode 2

The second episode, A Global Perspective on Antisemitism and the Left — Germany, brings together Dr Christine Achinger, currently based at the University of Warwick and co-editor of ‘Antisemitism, Racism and Islamophobia: Distorted Faces of Modernity’ and Dr Sebastian Voigt of the Institute of Contemporary History in Munich and author of ‘Jewish May '68: Pierre Goldman, Daniel Cohn-Bendit and André Glucksmann in post-war France’.

It is chaired by Dr David Juenger of the University of Rostock and a Fellow of the Sussex Institute with Ivor Gaber and Gideon Reuveni taking part in the discussion.

Episode 3

The second episode, A Global Perspective on Antisemitism and the Left — USA, The final episode in this series looks at the situation in the United States with Dr Sina Arnold of the Centre for Research on Antisemitism at the Technical University of Berlin and author of ‘From Occupation to Occupy: Antisemitism and the Contemporary American Left’ and Dr Blair Taylor of the Institute for Social Ecology and author of ‘The Next Revolution: Popular Assemblies and the Promise of Direct Democracy’.

The discussion is chaired by Dr David Juenger who is again joined by Professor Reuveni and Professor Gaber.
