Law

Law with a Year Abroad

You can spend a year studying abroad at some of the world's top universities, exploring a new culture and legal system.

Law with American Studies

This four-year course includes a year abroad at a North American university, giving you a real insight into the similarities and differences between the English and American legal systems.

The North American university you will attend has been carefully selected for its academic standard, levels of pastoral and administrative support, and cultural and geographical environment.

You could attend universities including:

  • the University of Berkely, California
  • the University of Arkansas
  • the University of Alaska.
Law with a Language

This three-year course allows you to combine the study of law with a minor in French, Italian or Spanish and to spend a year studying abroad to help you develop your proficiency in your chosen language.

You will study intermediate or advanced language modules in your first year of study in your chosen language, and post-intermediate or proficiency language modules in your second year to prepare you for your (optional) year abroad.

You could attend universities including:

  • French: L’Université de Strasbourg, Université des Sciences Sociales, Toulouse I
  • Spanish: Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), Universidad de Granada
  • Italian: Università degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale".

Preapring you for your year abroad

You will be given plenty of advice and information about the Year Abroad throughout your first two years at Sussex.

You will be invited to attend Year Abroad meetings, in order to meet returning final year students and discuss your options with academic staff.

We will also help you choose which university you will attend, with decisions based primarily on the suitability of the institution to your degree.

You can also enter competitions to help you make the most of your time away, remain in touch with the University and win prizes.

The Sussex Law School Blog Competition awards one lucky student £100 for narrating and describing their international experiences in blog format.
