Module details for 2022/23.

Module Outline
Inequality and the uneven accumulation of wealth has re-emerged as an area of explicit concern for a range of academic disciplines and policymaking institutions. This course will examine debates about the drivers and consequences of inequality and uneven wealth accumulation in the Global South and North. The first section will critically analyse theories of wealth and inequality that underpin dominant development paradigms. The second section will critically examine contemporary Global patterns of wealth accumulation and inequality. The final section will critically assess recent attempts to ‘leverage’ private wealth to achieve development outcomes (e.g. philanthropy, blended finance, closing tax loopholes).
