Protests, passions and the world of the mind are some of the themes that have captured the imaginations of graduating students presenting their work at this year's Media Practice and Theory degree show.

Media Matters 2011 features the final degree projects of 50 students which will be on view from Friday (3 June) in the Silverstone building.

The exhibition includes interactive installations using digital media, photography, sound projects, screen dramas and film documentaries.

Exhibits include:

• Political Postcards Rachel Tavernor has created an online space where members of the public can create protest slogans as postcards which are then projected on to a banner at the show. The intention is that once the postcards have been created online, a selection is projected into public spaces near their campaign targets. The work is inspired by the public works of artists such as Anthony Gormley and Jeremy Deller.
• Hunts is a photographic essay by Sebastian Silburn on the attractions of the hunt to a younger generation.
• The Way Finds You is a light-and-sound interactive installation by Jonny Hughes, inspired by the horror of the Brothers Grimm fairytales such as Little Red Riding Hood. Visitors enter a darkened room with just a flashlight to embark on a sensory journey through a gloomy wood.
• The Dream Do dreams have any place in reality? Combining interviews from psychic mediums, spiritual mediums, psychodynamic counsellors and psychologists, the focus of this project by Hannah Robertson is to discover the meaning of a recurrent dream she has had since childhood. The resulting radio art-style soundscape creates a dreamlike world.
• Stranger is a film drama by Daniel Harding and Matt Pellant, which tells the story of a pensioner with Alzheimer's, and the woman who cares for him, played by local actors Mike Stubbs and Jane Lesley. The film follows the viewpoint of both the sufferer Joe, and the feelings of loved ones "left behind" in the aftermath of the illness.
• Insides Out is a documentary film by Danny Baker and Alex Bruno that looks at taxidermy and the truth behind its process. Addressing the art of the process, the film gives an overview of the skills, passion, and creativity that informs the taxidermist's work.
• Animated Exchanges is an animated film based on conversations between members of maker Clare Dann's family while playing video games and watching TV. The film explores the role of the media in the family, and its impact on family relationships.

Head of Media Practice Mary Agnes Krell says: "Our students are passionate about the media they make and its place in this world. They have pushed the boundaries of many technologies and disciplines to create original new works in video, photography, digital media and sound. We are inspired by their creativity, enthusiasm and dedication."

The show is open to the public from Friday 3 June to Wednesday 8 June, from 10am to 5pm every day (closed Sunday 4 June).
