Students celebrated their contributions to campus life, media and sport at the Students' Union's annual awards ceremony in Brighton this month.
More than 40 awards were handed out at the event, which was held at Brighton Racecourse on 6 May and hosted by students Kit Bradshaw and Carl Salton-Cox. The pair are presenters on University Radio Falmer (URF), the University's student radio station.
Among the winners were Olivia Wilson, Arts Editor-in-Chief for the badger (the University's student newspaper), who was named 'best student media editor'.
Other notable successes included an 'outstanding achievement award' for Union Computers, which is a computer repair service run by student volunteers.
UniTV, the campus TV station, added to an already successful year by winning the 'innovation in student media' award. In April, the station won three trophies at the National Student Television Association (NaSTA) awards.
The 'best new society' title went to SCOOP, a food co-operative who buy dried foods in bulk and sell them onto students at near-wholesale prices.
In sport, Richard Lynch (football) and Grainne Le Fevre (volleyball) won, respectively, 'sportsman' and 'sportswoman of the year'.
There was also further recognition for Sussex's ultimate frisbee team Mohawks, who are UK champions - they won 'British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) team of the year'.
Cameron Tait, President of the Students' Union, said: "We're proud that we could put on an event to celebrate students' achievements this year."
