In this lecture, Professor Richard McManus will talk about how his team has changed the way patients and doctors think about diagnosing high blood pressure and improving blood pressure control. This is a story of answering the question “can patients look after their health?” as well as “should doctors and nurses be measuring blood pressure routinely?”. It’s also a fascinating investigation of what happens to the hearts of pregnant mothers with high blood pressure and how involving them in their own care can make a big difference to their long-term risk of heart disease and stroke.
