University of Sussex Campus : TBD
Speaker: Mauricio Rivera
Part of the series: Evaluation essentials training programme
Join us for the next stage in the Evaluation Essentials training.
This session is designed to introduce key statistical concepts and survey development procedures in the context of quantitative evaluation designs. You will learn how to understand and use existing data and outcome measures in Higher Education and explore how to create your own when needed. We will start by discussing common quantitative outcome measures in Higher Education (e.g., attendance, continuation, attainment, academic engagement), then move into essential statistical concepts such as frequencies, percentages, measures of central tendency, and measures of dispersion, along with guidance on how to use these concepts for evaluation. Next, we’ll dive into survey data, covering survey development, validity, reliability, fairness, and common surveys used in HE. The session will conclude with a practical workshop featuring exercises to consolidate your knowledge.
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
- Identify and interpret common quantitative outcome measures in Higher Education.
- Apply basic statistical concepts to analyse and understand data.
- Design surveys with attention to validity, reliability, and fairness.
- Locate and utilize key metrics to inform evaluation.
Sessions have been designed in a way where you do not have to have been to previous sessions to attend this.
This session will take place in person on campus. Exact room location will be confirmed later on.
