Abstract:
This seminar explores the dynamics of information integrity in climate change and energy policy debates in Australia, drawing on previous published work and a recent submission to the Senate Select Committee on Information Integrity on Climate Change and Energy. It examines how misinformation and disinformation narratives interact with public understanding, media framing, regulatory gaps, and institutional capture by fossil fuel interests. These challenges are situated with respect to recent policy announcements by the Australian Federal Labor Government. The presentation identifies key vulnerabilities in Australia’s information ecosystems and proposes reforms for strengthening oversight, enhancing scientific communication, and embedding accountability mechanisms in policy design and implementation.
