Each of these artist paints in a different medium: Julian Bell in oil, Jo Lamb mainly in acrylics, and Peter Messer in egg tempera.
How does this affect their work, and which pigments are their favourites? Find out some incredible stories about pigments and techniques old and new.
Peter Messer has kindly lent the large collection of vintage pigments and artists’ tool that are currently on display in the Banqueting Room of the Royal Pavilion as part of the exhibition COLOUR: A Chromatic Promenade Through the Royal Pavilion 21 March – 19 October 2025.
The event is hosted by colour historian Dr Alexandra Loske, who is the curator of the exhibition and of the Royal Pavilion.
