Summer of Research Festival 2025 – events for our alumni community, family and friends

This June, the University of Sussex is opening its doors for the Summer of Research Festival 2025, a celebration of ideas, innovation and impact. Alumni, local residents, and friends and family of students and staff are all warmly invited to join us for a selection of the fascinating, free events that showcase the exciting research happening here at Sussex.
All events are either held at our Falmer campus and/or you can attend online. Click the links below for more details and to book your tickets.
* Monday 9th June
Why We Should All Speak for Palestine! (2–4pm)
A thought-provoking discussion on the importance of global solidarity and the role of education and activism in supporting justice.
* Tuesday 10th June
Openness and Intellectual Property: finding balance between sharing and protecting ideas (10–11:30am)
Explore how researchers balance the need to share knowledge with the importance of protecting new ideas and inventions.
Widening Access to Biomedical Technology in the Global South (2–4pm)
Learn how Sussex researchers are working to make life-saving medical technologies more accessible in parts of the world that need them most.

Collaborate to Innovate: Quantum Technologies Beyond the Physics (12–1:30pm)
Discover how quantum science is being used in real-world applications, from healthcare to computing.
Food for Thought: A Workshop Exploring Food Research at Sussex (2–4pm)
Get to know the latest in food research, from sustainability to nutrition, with this multidisciplinary workshop.

Sussex Digital Humanities Lab Keynote 2025 – Joycelyn Longdon Rooted Innovation (2–4pm)
Hear from environmental technologist Joycelyn Longdon as she shares her inspiring vision for technology that serves both people and the planet.

Introduction to the Bennett Institute: Tackling the Climate Crisis through Innovation & Policy (10–11:30am)
Find out how Sussex researchers are addressing the climate crisis through smart policy and innovative thinking.
The Value of Life Laid Bare During and After Conflict (2–4:30pm)
A powerful collaboration from our Centres of Excellence, exploring how conflict changes our understanding of life, loss and resilience.
