Speaker: Saagar Tewari, G. Kanato Chophy, Arenmenla Jamir, Sangeeta Dasgupta, Sanghamitra Mishra
Part of the series: EASAS Academic Workshop
This workshop brings together researchers working on Adivasis, Indigenous Peoples, and Scheduled Tribes in Jharkhand and Central India, and Northeast India—regions that have often been studied in isolation. Despite shared experiences of marginalization, these communities have been conceptualized and governed differently in both academic and policy frameworks.
By fostering dialogue across these regions, the workshop seeks to explore how divergent historical trajectories can be brought into conversation. It asks how these communities have been represented, mapped, and imagined, and considers what comparative or intersecting histories might reveal. In doing so, the workshop aims to challenge regional silos and encourage new approaches to understanding indigeneity, state power, and resistance across India’s varied landscapes.
