Dear colleagues,
I hope you’re well and no doubt looking forward to a well-deserved break over the Winter vacation. We were all nervous about how this term would start and go and it has been fantastic to see so many students and staff on campus, and to hear how much they have appreciated in-person teaching but also blended with online learning opportunities. A big thank you to everyone for their part in this.
Looking to the new year, Council has announced the endorsement of the Education and Research Investment Programme. The programme will deliver vital investments totalling £200 million over the next five years to improve education and research at Sussex. There are 36 projects in total with eight being under the Education and Students Portfolio, however many of them e.g. the West Slope Development are under Estates and will have a substantial impact on students too.
We also continue to learn from the experiences of the pandemic and we have two key events to invite you to:
Pedagogic Revolution 2022
On 19 January, we’ll be holding the next Pedagogic Revolution event. One that will focus on the future of assessment. You can find the event itinerary in the recent news story about the half-day symposium.
Our Pedagogic Revolution events are very popular, and for good reason, as they bring together a vibrant community of practice that’s making positive changes for students and staff at the University. I hope that if you’ve not already done so, you’ll secure your place at this online symposium as soon as possible as places are likely to fill up fast. It only takes a few minutes via Eventbrite to register.
Webinar on Education Investment Programme
On 21 January, we’ll be hosting a Webinar to explain the Education and Research Investment Programme, the projects, timelines and what this will mean to individuals. There will be opportunities to ask questions to the Education and Students Senior Leadership Team.
The Webinar will be recorded and shared afterwards. To Join the Webinar please use this link: Investing in our campus: Learn to Transform (21 January 2022).
We look forward to seeing you at these events.
Thanks for your time.
With best wishes,
Claire
