Chinese social media giant Tencent News has awarded Sussex as ‘2019 favoured UK university among Chinese families for best campus and employment prospects’ for the second year in a row.
Last month in Beijing, Professor Richard Follett, Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor International, received the award in front of over 300 educational organisations’ representatives across China and educators from 25 countries.
Professor Follett said: “This year's Tencent award scores Sussex's profile as a leading UK university for international graduate employability. It is a ringing endorsement from Chinese families and testimony to the university's profile in the world's most populous nation.”
The University’s China team - comprising of Amy Pan, Michelle Huang and Charlotte Zhao - has successfully built up a presence for Sussex on Chinese social media platforms such as Wechat and Weibo in the past few years. This award reflects the work and efforts that the International Office and China Team have put in to Sussex’s biggest market.
Martin Hookham, Head of International Office said: ‘We are really pleased with this award. China team has evidently done a fantastic job to ensure that Sussex profile is well understood in China.”
Tencent is one of China’s largest social media companies and ranked second out of 500 top brand organisations in China. Its services include social and communication platforms such as QQ.com, WeChat, Tencent News, Tencent Net, Tencent Games and Tencent Videos.
This is the second time UK universities have been included in the awards event, which is judged by educational experts, media and through online surveys with Chinese families.
