A Sussex student is celebrating after beating the best young players in the world at the Ultimate (formerly Ultimate Frisbee) Under 23 World Championships in Florence this summer.
Engineering and Design undergraduate Nick White was part of the Great Britain team who won gold in the division for mixed teams (must be made up of both male and female players) at the competition, which took place on 19-25 July.
Nick said: "It feels great. We didn't know how we were going to do beforehand, and lost the first game against Belgium, who we then played in the final. So it was nice to get one back over them at the more important time.
"I think the whole team is still buzzing as it was such an incredible week!"
Two other Sussex students represented Great Britain in the sport this summer and also returned home with medals. The women's team including Megan Hurst, a postgraduate student in Psychology, won bronze at the under 23 championships.
Meanwhile, Ashley Yeo, an undergraduate in Engineering and Design, picked up team bronze in the under 20 junior open division in Germany in the first week of August (open teams almost always consist of men only, although women are allowed).
Nick, Megan and Ashley all play for the University of Sussex Ultimate team, the Mohawks.
