Excited comments after Saturday's open day for potential students spread swiftly across social networking sites on the internet.
Individual "tweets" on the microblogging site, Twitter, were full of praise for the campus, the staff and the opportunity to study at Sussex:
- "SussexUni is my future home. Such a pretty campus and so close to Brighton. Now to work for the AAB I need to get in!"
- "The only bad thing about @sussexuni open day was that no other Uni can compare! Best start working for those three As!"
- "Oh wow. Sussex uni is beautiful. I'm a little bit in love with the campus and the location! Gorgeous green hills next door to Brighton."
- "Everyone was so cool it was weird."
- "Fantastic day at @sussexuni. Without doubt one of my top 2."
- "Rather impressed with sussex uni."
Other feedback to date about the event on 12 June has also been positive. To gain more systematic feedback to inform the planning of future events, Student Recruitment Services is undertaking an online survey of all those who registered.
Of the 255 students who have so far completed evaluation surveys, 82% said they are now more likely to apply to Sussex. One commented: "I found the staff and students very approachable and loved the fact that every person I came across was incredibly enthusiastic and genuinely proud to be representing your university."
In total the event attracted more than 5,000 bookings - of which 2,157 were prospective undergraduates thinking about which university to apply to for September 2011 - making it the largest summer open day ever held at Sussex.
The students came along with family and friends to look around campus, meet academics, drop in on accommodation and take tours into Brighton.
Marcus Williams, Director of Student Recruitment, said: "As usual it was a real team effort, with more than 160 academic and support staff contributing to the day."
Planning for the 9 October open day will begin in August. Student Recruitment Services look forward to welcoming more than 6,000 visitors to what is historically a busier event than the June open day.
