Sussex graduate and IBM employee Lucy Self talks to current students about applying for graduate schemes
Sussex graduates and placement students working for IBM returned to campus in November 2016 to share their expertise and employability skills with current students interested in a future career with one of the world's largest technology companies.
The visit, organised by the School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc) Student Experience team, included a presentation from Lucy Self, who recently joined IBM's graduate scheme after completing her Sussex BSc in Business and Management Studies (with a professional placement year).
Lucy was fast-tracked onto the graduate scheme after a successful placement with IBM during the third year of her degree.
Joining Lucy were current placement students Jasmine Havloujan and Matthew Wyke, who shared first-hand experience of the benefits of taking a placement year and advised aspiring students on how to put together a successful placement application.
Current students were then invited to ask questions and network with Lucy, Jasmine and Matthew over tea and coffee.
Five BMEc students have so far completed professional placements at IBM, with this number expected to continue growing in the coming years.
