Sussex economics alumnus appointed as Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka

A Sussex economics alumnus has been appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), continuing an already highly successful career in banking and economics.
Renowned diplomat and economist Dr Indrajit Coomaraswamy, who graduated from Sussex with a PhD in economics in 1982, was announced in his new position by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Twitter:
After consulting all parties concerned, I appointed top economist Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy to lead the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Prior to this appointment, Dr Coomaraswarmy has held several high profile positions in Sri Lanka and internationally, including Senior Advisor to the Sri Lankan Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade; Director of Economic Affairs at the Commenwealth Secretariat; and Advisor to former Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Project Minister of Economic Reforms, Science and Technology Milinda Moragoda.
He has also had a successful sporting career, having captained the Sri Lankan national rugby union team in the 1974 Rugby Asiad and played cricket for the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club.
