Jewish Soldiers in the German Army in the “Great War”
Wednesday 21 January 20:00 until 21:30
Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue (HGSS), Norrice Lea, London, N2 0RE
Speaker: Professor Peter C. Appelbaum, chaired by Dr Gideon Reuveni

By using excerpted diaries and memoirs of soldiers from all branches of the army, he brings to life the amazing story of their courage, even in the face of anti-Semitism. Peter also covers the Judenzahlung (Jewish Census) of October, 1916- a pivotal event in the post-war development of German anti-Semitism. “Loyal Sons” closes with a few examples of the faith of these veterans whose “Fatherland” thanked them some two decades later with all the horrors of the Holocaust
Professor Peter C. Appelbaum is retired as Emeritus Professor of pathology (Pennsylvania State University). He is an expert on this period of German military history, Peter speaks with great passion and deep knowledge about the topic.
