Resistance, Testimony, Archive
Friday 14 March 14:00 until 17:00
Keep 3, The Keep
Speaker: Hanna Diamond, Rod Kedward, Martyn Cox, Martin Evans
This event marks the creation of the Archive of Resistance Testimony at Sussex. The archive is dedicated to the collection of material relating to the historical theme of resistance, with a special focus on recorded testimony and individual recollection.
Three historians and a filmmaker (including two of the first donors to the archive) will reflect on the meanings of resistance in their work, and the particular role that testimony plays in unlocking those meanings. They will also reflect on the wider significance for understandings of resistance developed in specific historical contexts (occupied Europe during World War Two; anti-colonial protest).
The event will therefore be of interest to all students, faculty and researchers interested in all aspects of resistance studies, or who make use of life history, testimonial or personal recollection.
