The Global Design Seminar Series - Free talks
Tuesday 28 January 18:00 until 19:00
Fulton 104
Speaker: Nick Virr
Part of the series: Global Design Seminars
Nick will be talking about his work with Renewable World, a UK based charity set up in 2007 with the aim of tackling poverty in developing countries through the provision of affordable, renewable energy systems. As South Asia Programme manager, Nick has been involved in a range of projects involving solar, wind, micro-hydro, biogas and hydram energy systems. These projects light up homes, schools and clinics; pump clean water to households for washing, cleaning and cooking; and irrigate fields to grow crops. In turn, access to energy stimulates trade and enterprise and improves access to health and education opportunities.
The Global Design Seminar series will present a number of speakers from organisations concerned with engineering and computing technology and design, international development, sustainability and the environment. Seminars are hosted by the School of Engineering and Informatics and for Spring 2014 will be held on Tuesdays, 6pm - 7pm.
All welcome!
