Sussex doctoral student Micheál O’Connell plays with scientific and engineering mathematical principles for a new solo art exhibition of his work in Cork.
Micheál (alias Mocksim), who is studying for a PhD in digital media through the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts and the School of Engineering and Informatics, will see his work on display at the Cork Institute of Technology until 22 October.
The exhibition, Boundary Work, features feedback loop theories, simulation modelling and cybernetics delivered via digital media technologies, live performance and photography.
Micheál originally pursued a career in computer simulation for oil and gas companies before studying fine art at the University of Brighton.
He has also delivered stand-up comedy routines integrating both performance and digital media approaches.
In 2011 he was invited by celebrated photographer Martin Parr to show his series of photographs about traffic wardens, 'Contra-Invention', at the prestigious photography festival Les Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d'Arles.
He was subsequently nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2012.
