This week in 1973, the freedom-of-speech debate reared its head on campus as the University dealt with the aftermath of a mass protest against a visiting lecturer. More than 500 protesters successfully prevented a prominent American political scientist from lecturing on campus.
Professor Samuel Huntington had been criticised by staff and students for his pro-military views during the Vietnam War, in which he worked as a strategic advisor for the US military.
Senate will today (Wednesday) discuss the visit of Professor Samuel P. Huntington to the University of Tuesday 5 June. Some members of the University have formed opinions of the work of Professor Huntington.
