Research Scholarships in the School of Engineering and Informatics (2012)

At least three, and up to six, will be awarded in the Department of Engineering and Design. At least three and up to six will be awarded in the Department of Informatics.
The scholarships in Engineering may be in any of the Department's three research areas:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering

The scholarships in Informatics may be in any of the Department's four research areas.
- Cognitive and Language Processing Systems
- Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems
- Foundations of Software Systems
- Interactive Systems

Applicants with research interests that span both Departments are particularly welcome.
Scholarships will normally include a three-year stipend at standard postgraduate rates (currently £13,590 per annum for 2011-12), with fees waived at the full-time rate for UK and EU students. For Overseas students, higher fee rates apply and applicants for these awards must meet the additional fees by self funding or by an award from a third party sponsor. Alternative fee and stipend arrangements may be negotiable to meet the individual circumstances of applicants. Recipients of scholarships will be required to work closely with academic staff on standard teaching duties for a small proportion of their time.

Eligibility
Applicants should have at least a UK upper second class Bachelor degree or a UK Masters degree with Merit classification (or International equivalents), relevant to the field of study.

To ensure you are considered for these awards, you must complete the Funding part of the on-line application form (under the 'Other' section). State here that you wish to be considered for "A funded Research Scholarship for September 2012 admission". If you are a non-EU applicant, you should explain how you intend to fund the additional fees payable. You may also propose here any alternative funding arrangements.
Timetable
The closing date for applications is 14 February 2012. Early application is encouraged.
The start date for the scholarships and for student registration at Sussex is 20 September 2012.
