Forest Food Garden Maintenance Day – Volunteers Needed!
Thursday 26 June 11:30 until 16:00
University of Sussex Campus : Forest Food Garden (north of Northfield accommodation)

We’re calling on staff and students from across the University community to help care for our beautiful Forest Food Garden and we’d love to have you with us!
Led by the practical garden tutor, Paul, this is a great opportunity to connect with nature, support a sustainable project on campus, and get stuck into some rewarding outdoor work.
No gardening experience needed – just a willingness to get your hands (a little) dirty!
Tasks will include, watering, weeding, bramble bashing and mulching. That gives volunteers a varied range of activities to choose from, from some gentle meditative gardening work all the way through to a free work out pushing a loaded barrow up the slope.
You’re welcome to drop in any time during the session and stay for as little or as long as you like.
Things to bring (if you can):
- Secateurs, shears or loppers (some tools provided)
- Gardening gloves (spares available)
- Sturdy footwear
- Long sleeves/trousers – brambles are fierce!
- Sunscreen, water, and food if staying all day
- Weather-appropriate clothing
Don’t forget:
University staff can use their volunteering leave to take part (up to 2 days pro rata per year). Why not spend one of them in the fresh air helping this important campus initiative?
Register your interest:
Please email Perpetua Kirby, p.kirby@sussex.ac.uk, to let us know you’re coming and whether you can bring any tools.
Please share with colleagues and students who might like to join us! We hope to see you there.
