Aeron is a short drama about two different cultures coming together through the wonderland of childhood imagination.
A student film could become the first ever from the University of Sussex to win a prize in one of the UK’s leading film competitions.
Aeron, a short drama about two different cultures coming together through the wonderland of childhood imagination, was made by Orban Wallace, Zamarin Wahdat and Michael van Batenburg as part of their Media Practice degree at Sussex.
And the 20-minute work has now been short listed in the regional round of the Royal Television Society (RTS) student film awards.
If it beats two other entries to win the fiction category at the southern regional finals in Winchester on Friday (22 February), the film will be entered into the national finals, to be held in central London in May.
David Kilkelly, Media Production Tutor in the School of Media, Film and Music (MFM), says: “This award is widely recognised as one of the leading film competitions in the country. The standards are high; we've entered on several occasions before and this is the first time we’ve been selected.”
The three shortlisted film-makers - who graduated from Sussex in summer 2012 - received theoretical and technical tuition from staff in MFM as well as access to equipment and facilities.
David Kilkelly says: “Drama on the Media Practice degree has gone from strength to strength over the last few years and this trend looks likely to continue with the proposed introduction of a new film making MA next year.”
