How is mobility governed in a rapidly changing digital and securitized world?

This module maps security and aid technologies shaping the way displaced people navigate a divided world. You’ll investigate the ways that technological innovation has both worsened existing immobility and provided potential solutions to everyday challenges of aid.

You’ll pose key questions about the future of global mobilities in an age of AI, using and analysing the diverse perspectives of:

  • local and international humanitarian actors
  • forced migrants
  • tech actors.

Module learning outcomes

  • Understand and identify key dilemmas in the use of digital technology in humanitarian and security responses to global mobility.
  • Develop an analytical lens through which to examine technological innovation within mobility governance.
  • Synthesize information and materials from diverse sources on contemporary mobility challenges.
  • Assess and design technological solutions to challenges facing people on the move.
