On this module you'll study the key concepts and logic of quantitative social research methods and data analysis, including statistical testing and inference. You'll consider analysis techniques suitable for your research question and type of data. You'll run analysis using specialist software, interpret results and communicate findings.
You'll gain practical and transferable research skills for your final year project, and for employment.
Module learning outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of hypothesis testing and statistical inference, including formulating a suitable research question and associated hypothesis, selecting an appropriate test and interpreting the result
- Manipulate data and conduct statistical analysis using an appropriate computer package.
- Evaluate the strengths and limitations of different primary and secondary quantitative data sources and analysis techniques.
- Interpret analysis results and communicate findings using tables, graphs and narrative.
