Criminological Futures evaluates the possible impacts of emerging systems/technologies of crime control and law enforcement on our criminological futures. We query whether these developments are inevitable or even desirable. Across the module, discussions will be animated by themes of control, technological progress, agency, utopia/dystopia, capitalist realism, amongst others.

  • Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse empirical research relevant to module topics
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse theoretical arguments relevant to module topics
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how science fiction furthers theoretically informed criminological arguments for a vision of the future
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically review relevant literature and argue for a criminologically informed vision of the future
