On this module, you’ll explore psychological theories of prejudice, discrimination and intergroup relations. You’ll apply theory to multi-ethnic and racial contexts across the world, including the UK, US and Turkey.
You’ll examine:
- key issues in the study of intergroup relations
- the perceptions and experiences of majority and minority group members
- classic and modern theory and research on prejudice and intergroup relations
- applications of theory to pressing social issues, such as racism, sexism and ageism.
Module learning outcomes
- Describe theories of prejudice and discrimination (more broadly, intergroup relations) and summarise classical studies conducted in prejudice and discrimination literature.
- Provide theoretical arguments to improve intergroup relations in real-life contexts.
- Critically evaluate and reflect on the perspectives in prejudice and discrimination literature and interpret the published findings.
