Elite sport is a high-stakes and high-pressure environment where careers are often defined by success. Despite this, athletes and teams demonstrate sustained high-level performance.

On this module, you’ll examine modern sport psychology theory to explain how athletes and teams win in such extreme conditions.

You’ll explore:

  • theory and research around individual performance, such as confidence, motivation and resilience
  • group and team processes, including leadership, cohesion and identity.

Module learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of contemporary sport psychology theory and research.
  • Critically evaluate sport psychology theory and research.
  • Apply sport psychology theory and research to hypothetical and/or real-world scenarios in sport or other domains.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex material in a clear manner for a variety of audiences.
