Further Quantum Mechanics (885F3)

Autumn teaching

Topics covered include:

  • Review of 4-vector notation and Maxwell equations
  • Relativistic quantum mechanics: Klein-Gordon equation and antiparticles
  • Time-dependent perturbation theory. Application to scattering processes and calculation of cross-sections. Feynman diagrams
  • Spin-1/2 particles and the Dirac equation. Simple fermionic scatterings.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 55 hours of contact time and about 95 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
