Entry requirements and application information

  • Undergraduate entry requirements

    Clearing offer

    Undergraduate Year 1

    Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)

    A typical Clearing offer requires grades 65% BBCCCC from six grade 12 U, U/C or M courses. Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course you are applying for.

    British Columbia Certificate of Graduation

    A typical Clearing offer requires grades BCCCC from five level 12 subjects. Additional subject-specific requirements may apply depending on the undergraduate course you are applying for.

    Applicants with equivalent offers from other Canadian school diplomas are invited to apply for clearing.

    English language entry requirements

    Canada is considered a majority English speaking country, and Canadian nationals are not required to sit an English language test or assessment in order to obtain a CAS.

    To meet the academic English language requirement, we require English language at a Pass in either Grade 11 or Grade 12 of High School, or equivalent.

  • Masters entry requirements

    Academic entry requirements

    A degree is required, with a minimum cGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 (grade B). Additional subject-specific requirements may apply based on the postgraduate program you are applying for.

    These entry requirements are intended as guidelines. If you have questions about your qualifications or if they are not listed here, please feel free to contact us.

    English language entry requirements

    Canada is considered a majority English speaking country, and Canadian nationals are not required to sit an English language test or assessment in order to obtain a CAS.

    To meet the academic English language requirement, we require English language at a Pass in either Grade 11 or Grade 12 of High School, or equivalent.

  • PhD entry requirements

    Academic entry requirements

    A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a minimum overall grade of 3.0 out of 4.0 (grade B) in a subject relevant to your chosen PhD course.

    However, if you do not meet the academic requirements, you may still be considered for the degree if you can provide evidence of extensive work experience in a related field.

Visas and immigration

As a Canadian student, you’ll need to apply for a visa to study at the University of Sussex.

Safety on campus

We offer a safe campus community for our students, supported by our 24/7 on-site security team, who are contactable 24-hours a day if you have any concerns. The Security Centre is equipped 24/7 to respond to emergency situations and includes CCTV and other crime prevention equipment. Find out more about our campus safety.

Canadian Student Law Society

This popular society acts as a home away from home for Canadian students studying at Sussex. They organise a range of events throughout the year, including:

  • visits around the UK and to France
  • mooting competitions and social events
  • sessions on exam preparation and accreditation
  • events to help you build your legal networks.
