PhD Studentship: Development of Haptic Interfaces for Medical Robotics (2022)

The scope of the project is the development of mechatronics tools to attach to robotics arms for medical robotics (e.g., Rehabilitation, Diagnostics, and Surgery) to enhance the haptic experience of the users. Therefore, you will be tasked to develop the tools, test them, and work with the other researchers in the group to integrate them into the robot arms.

What you get

You will receive a tax-free stipend at a standard rate of £16,062 per year for 3.5 years and a research training grant of £2,000 for the 3.5-year duration. In addition, your fees will be waived for 3.5 years up to the overseas rate.

Type of award

Postgraduate Research

PhD project

Medical robotsare designed to operate around frail humans safely; we are looking for a PhD student to work on the development of mechatronics interfaces to be mounted on robot arms to perform multiple medical tasks. This research is part of a larger project aiming to design modular medical robots that can perform various medical tasks and be reprogrammed directly from the medical personnel. In other words, a robot capable of performing ultrasound scans, rehabilitation, or minor procedures depending on the clinical needs.
