General information for attendees
Find out what to expect at the SLSA Annual Conference 2026.
Conference participation
The conference will be held in person, but the Plenary session will be live-streamed, and there will be an online poster display. The conference will be held in the Fulton and Jubilee buildings. You can find us by using the campus map. Both buildings are on raised areas, accessible by both steps and ramps, and have automatic doors.
Refreshments will be served in both buildings, and lunch will be served in Fulton.
Sessions will take place in person, and all speakers are expected to present on-site. However, to ensure the event is inclusive and accessible, we will consider requests for online presentations where needed as a reasonable adjustment. Such requests must be made at the time of abstract submission.
Reasonable adjustments, as set out in the Equality Act 2010, relate to the removal of barriers to participation that disadvantage colleagues with disabilities or long-term health conditions, or, additionally, because of their caring responsibilities. Requests are required to be made during the abstract submission process to facilitate suitable planning and scheduling of papers by the stream convenors and conference organisers. Where such requests are accepted:
- Stream convenors will be responsible for creating a remote access link via Zoom or Teams and coordinating arrangements for online presentations. The conference organisers will assist to the extent possible with IT support. Any further participation beyond facilitating online presentations cannot be guaranteed.
- No discounts will be offered on the conference registration fee, but the SLSA does offer bursaries, details of which can be found on the conference website.
Accessibility
All conference rooms are accessible and have PCs, microphones, projector screens and HD cameras pointed towards the lectern, and feeding directly into the built-in lecture PCs. The Plenary room also has a hearing loop system.
Fulton and Jubilee both have accessible, gender neutral toilet facilities on each floor.

Accessible transport
You can reach the campus by personal or public transport. Find out how to get to our campus.
If you’re driving to campus and require a parking space, including those for Blue Badge holders, take a look at our parking for visitors.
The train station is partially accessible, but may not be accessible for all.
A wheelchair accessible shuttle bus connects the city centre and the campus in the morning (centre-campus) and afternoon (campus-centre). This service is restricted to those who cannot use other transport options. If you’d like to use the shuttle bus, please ensure that you note this on the conference registration form, under access requirements.
Accomodation
There is no accommodation on or around campus, so we advise that you book your accommodation in town, in Brighton and Hove.
You will find that there are some discounted conference delegate rates available.
Alternatively, you can use other hotel and private accommodation platforms.
Childcare and breastfeeding
There will be a room on campus dedicated to breastfeeding and baby changing facilities in both conference buildings:
- Jubilee building has an accessible/all-gender toilet on the ground floor, by the main staircase. There is a baby changing station in room G21.
- Fulton building has an accessible/all-gender toilet on the ground floor.
Falmer and Brighton have a range of nurseries and childminders, including the Wrap Nursery and Brighton Tinies.
The conference organisers will cover the costs of childcare provision in town for children up to the age of five. If you require childcare during the conference, please indicate this on the registration form, and we’ll be in touch to discuss your requirements.
Religious, spiritual and meditation facilities
There are religious, spiritual and meditation facilities at the University of Sussex Meeting House, including a range of religious denominations. Find out more.
Muslim delegates wishing to pray can also use the Student Union rooms for Muslim prayers in Falmer House. Both the sisters and brothers sections require a password, which is changed regularly. To access the password, or for any other information regarding the prayer space, please email slsa2026@sussex.ac.uk.
Shops, cafes and other facilities
Find out more information about our range of shops, cafes and facilities on campus.
Unfortunately, there are no publicly available lockers for conference delegates’ use.
Sustainability
SLSA and the conference organisers are committed to delivering a sustainable conference.
Delegates will not be offered any merchandise such as tote bags, pens or notebooks, to avoid the environmental impact of those items.
To support our sustainability efforts, delegates are requested to bring a reusable water bottle, which can be refilled at the water stations in each conference building.
Both buildings have water fountains/dispensers. There is one on each floor in Fulton situated through the doors after the staircase. There is also one on each floor in Jubilee, including one on the ground floor by the toilets behind the staircase.
To help reduce food waste and cater to the diverse dietary preferences and needs of delegates, the conference will offer meat-free meals and refreshments for all on-campus catering. Fish or meat will be on offer as options for off-campus evening events. Dietary preferences and requirements for these events will be gathered during the registration process.
