Our award-winning campus

Our campus has won the Green Flag award for well-managed green spaces eight years in a row.

It’s a paradise for wildlife, home to 158 bird species and 32 mammal species in rich habitats like the Jubilee woodland, meadows and wildflower areas.

You can take the free, scenic boundary walk around the perimeter of the campus to enjoy the beauty of the Falmer landscape.

The University of Sussex is a partner of Brighton Festival, and Festival events are held at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts every year.

You can book a range of events for 10 to up to 250 delegates at our modern Conference Centre.

Cash machines

Withdraw cash and check your balance at the cash machine outside the Co-op on campus. The nearest cash machine off-campus is at Falmer Station.

Chaplaincy and Meeting House

Location: Sussex campus
Opening hours: Monday-Friday 8am-8pm (during term-time; 8am-5pm during vacations). Sunday 6-7pm for Mass. Closed on Saturdays year round.

Services and events take place in the kaleidoscopic round space, where the light is different from hour to hour.

Members of the public are free to enjoy this oasis at the heart of campus. 

Childcare

The University's childcare facilities are available to staff and students for children aged four months to five years.

Launderette

Location: Refectory Road, between Swanborough Blocks two and three
Opening hours: Self-service washes – Open every day (including weekends and bank holidays) 8am-12am. Service washes – Monday-Friday, 8am-1pm (cash only).

You can download an app from Circuit Laundry or pay by cash or card at the launderette machines.


Our heritage

The Keep

The public can access the University of Sussex Heritage Collections at The Keep, an extensive archive a short walk from our campus.

Our collections include the Mass Observation Archive, which documents the everyday thoughts and behaviours of British people.

We deliver projects to record and preserve local, regional and national cultural heritage, including that of displaced communities.

The Centre for German-Jewish Studies and Centre for Life History and Life Writing ran a series of online co-creation workshops as part of the Digital Holocaust Memory and Education project, leading to the publication of six reports providing guidance on digital interventions in holocaust memory and education.

The Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies and our student-run initiative Roots Garden co-host a Reggae Sound System Interactive Workshop which aims to preserve Black diasporic sound culture.
