Sussex Collaborations
Tuesday 11 June 13:00 until 14:00
University of Sussex Campus : Fulton 107
We are on a fact-finding mission to find out how we can help Sussex academics not only understand all the diverse research which our academics work on, but how they can work together to advance their own research, present a stronger and more diverse inter-disciplinary team to researchers not only in the UK and the EU, but internationally.
The current funders increasingly fund schemes which are inter-disciplinary. Both the UKRI, the EU through the Horizon Europe funding programme, but also various charities have realised that to achieve solutions to the most pressing research questions and therefore helping to achieve the UN’s Development Goals will not come from single research areas alone. To make research more impactful quickly, to find solutions or at least advance towards these goals, the skills of researchers in the STEMS Sciences, Social Sciences and Arts & Humanities sectors will have to be harnessed together for the most impactful research.
Many of you have already established collaborations with academics outside of Sussex as well as some established collaborations in Sussex, but we have noticed that Sussex academics tend to turn outside of Sussex for collaborations first. We want to know why this is and how we could help you also harness the knowledge within Sussex.
Come and help us understand what barriers for effective collaborations between the Schools currently exists. What can we do to change this? What would you like us to provide for you to meet and get to know your colleagues and understand their research?
We could have regular “Meet & Understand each other’s Research Events”, workshops for specific funding calls, more directed dissemination with the help of our SciVal database. However, rather than launching into actions which we think would be useful, we want to know what you think would help you and then act on it.
Please come and engage with us so that we can help you collaborate with your colleagues. Lunch will be provided.
Please register your place using our TicketSource booking page
We will also be running a SciVal event on Wednesday 22nd May 2024, 'Using SciVal to find ‘stretch’ collaborators'. More information can be found here.
This event is part of the Summer of Research 2024, a festival celebrating fantastic research from the University of Sussex and its positive impact. Sign up for other exciting events here!
