Job description

The English Department at the University of Sussex are seeking to appoint a lecturer in literature for a fixed-term maternity leave cover position of 12 months from 1 September 2023.

You will have teaching and/or research experience in contemporary literature, psychoanalysis and literature, and/or critical theory.

In the autumn, you will be expected to convene and teach third-year module Psychoanalysis and Literature and teach onto the first year introduction to critical theory module, Critical Approaches.  

In the spring, you will be expected to convene and teach second year module Contemporary Literature and Culture, and the MA module, Modernist and Contemporary Literature. You will be expected to supervise undergraduate dissertations and MA dissertations.
 
You will join a thriving, collegial Department with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary study, and an intellectually ambitious undergraduate and postgraduate student community.  Teaching experience, good communication skills, and an ability to work productively as part of a friendly, team-oriented department are essential skills for this position.
