Activity

Find out about the variety of activities CTLR members engage in.

From networking to workshops and seminars with invited speakers, all members are encouraged to initiate activity and seek the support of centre management in realising their ideas.

The School's Doctoral Researchers are encouraged to attend all activities relevant to their research. Check out all our upcoming events.

Research and practice networks

Our Research & Practice networks are designed to provide a space for researchers and practitioners to share and discuss ideas and common areas of interest. They are open to all interested stakeholders and researchers and will meet at least twice a year. Our overarching aim is to develop our understandings of complex, real world problems and solutions.

  • School Exclusions and Alternative Provision (SEAP) network

SEAP aims to bring practitioners and researchers together to talk about all issues relevant to young people involved in school exclusion processes and/or placed in Alternative Provision. We welcome staff working in schools and in other educational settings and roles as well as new and more established researchers.

Facilitated by Louise Gazeley (Professor of Education), Hannah Olle (Doctoral Researcher in the School of Education and Social Work) and George Fisher (West Sussex Alternative Provision College).

Contact Louise for further information, including details of next meeting.

  • Pedagogy+ network

Pedagogy+ sessions are termly events focused on aspects of higher education and teaching methods from the perspectives of teaching academics in different disciplines. Events feature speakers from our academic community as well as academics from other universities. If you're interested in delivering a session or joining, contact Emily Danvers E.Danvers@sussex.ac.uk for more information.

  • Reading, Digital and Poliliteracies network

Secondary Book Club: This reading group is for English teachers and librarians from Sussex and beyond. We shadow read all the books on the UKLA longlist and meet six times across the year to discuss the books and how we’d use them both in the classroom and more widely, to encourage young people to read for pleasure. It is also an opportunity to share ideas, resources and tips for whole school literacy and reading in general. Contact Lucy.Bruen@sussex.ac.uk for more information.
