What is an Open Day?

Our Open Days are a great chance to:

  • attend talks on the subjects that interest you and chat to the academics who’ll inspire you
  • learn about personal statements, student finance and housing in dedicated presentations
  • get the lowdown on Sussex life from our Student Ambassadors 
  • explore our beautiful campus and extensive accommodation options on guided tours
  • visit the spacious and welcoming Student Centre, our base for commuter students 
  • talk to our helpful support staff about careers, admissions, wellbeing and disability
  • take a ten minute train to buzzing Brighton to check out the many cafes, restaurants and bars – and enjoy a sunset stroll along the seafront.

Help with travel costs 

We want to make sure everyone can visit us at an Open Day. That’s why we’re helping with the cost of travel for you and a guest if you’re eligible.

Depending on where you live, you can claim between £25 and £75. Find out how to get to our Falmer campus. 

If you take public transport to an Open Day at Sussex in 2026, we’ll plant a tree. This is part of the Your Root to Sussex initiative, a collaboration with the South Downs Trust. Find out how to get involved. 

The Sussex Guarantee

Your grades don’t define you – or your future. That’s why we offer the Sussex Guarantee. 

Get involved in at least one of the following activities at Sussex before you start and we’ll reduce your offer by up to 8 UCAS Points:

  • attend an in-person Open Day (in Autumn 2026 or Summer 2027). 
  • complete our 2026/27 Year 12 Sussex Inspires programme
  • complete our 2027 Year 12 Summer School, online or in person.

You could also benefit from the Sussex Guarantee Plus. 

If you participate in one of the above activities and make Sussex your first choice once you’ve received your offer, your offer will be reduced by 16 UCAS points.

Discount hotels

Campus accessibility

We want your visit to be safe and enjoyable, so the guidance below will help you prepare for your day with us. 

You can visit the Student Centre throughout your day to hear about the support available to students.

  • Disabled parking

    When you book your place you can let us know your access requirements, including parking. When you arrive on campus you will need to display your blue badge.

    You will then be directed to one of our disabled parking spaces, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis on the day.

  • Making your way around campus

    All rooms and lecture theatres used on Open Days have wheelchair access. There are accessible toilets available from all of our locations on-campus.

    All of our lecture theatres and rooms have a floor plan with exit routes and assistance points. If you have any questions about the routes, you can ask a member of staff and they will be happy to help.

    To find out about accessible campus tours, head to the campus tour departure point and a member of staff or student ambassador will be happy to help.

    Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome on campus.

  • Quiet spaces on campus

    Our campus has lots of open space where you can get away from the crowds.

    At every Open Day there will be an allocated quiet room if you need to take some time out. Just check the event programme for details.
