Creative Practice: Producing and Curating (P4039)

Spring teaching
This module will introduce you to various aspects of contemporary media creation with a focus on how consideration of an audience should be built in from the beginning.
You’ll study the themes of:
- need
- media messages (intended and received)
- interdisciplinarity
- transmedia.
A series of lectures will present different methods and technologies for curating, presenting and showcasing your work as media makers. This may include:
- screenings
- installations
- happenings
- channels
- digital devices.
You’ll participate in workshop and seminar discussions, exploring ideas from the lectures and undertaking regular independent-study assignments to enhance your understanding. These will be recorded in a weekly log. You’ll also produce a short report.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 55 hours of contact time and about 245 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27.
