Spring teaching
On this module, you’ll develop your existing knowledge and skills, focusing on audio-visual media and a variety of audio-visual journalism platforms.
The concepts you’ll explore focus on the similarities and differences between:
- news and features production
- interactivity
- storytelling
- participatory and inclusive journalism techniques for audio and vision
You’ll develop your practical skills of information gathering, writing, interviewing and storytelling and apply these to audio-visual outputs. You’ll also explore ethical issues in audio-visual journalism and critically reflect on your practice of audio-visual production.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 44 hours of contact time and about 256 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27.
