Spring teaching
On this module, you’ll look at international film of the last five decades.
You’ll study a range of films in order to explore:
- genre and art cinema
- post-colonialism and political cinema
- gender and feminist cinema
- globalisation and popular cinema.
You’ll study important movements in post-war film culture, including Third Cinema from Brazil and political cinema from Senegal.
You’ll explore the relationship between:
- gender
- history
- allegory
- national cinema.
Examples may include films from Tunisia, Iran and Argentina.
You’ll also examine the aesthetics and economics of the blockbuster in a global film culture including contemporary films from:
- South Korea
- China
- India
- Australia.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology.
