Get involved in university events and societies
We run welcome events when you first arrive and regular cultural events such as our Holi-One World Week to help you get the most out of your time at Sussex.
You can sign up to our Buddy Scheme to help you settle in. As part of the scheme, you'll be matched to a current Sussex student based on your interests, course or language and you will regularly meet up with your buddy.
Many subject areas have student-run societies which you can join and take part in. Past activities have included:
- trips to Brussels (International Relations Society)
- trips to NASA and open lectures (Physics Society)
- participation in trips or the Winter Ball (Law Society)
Travel around the UK
We can help you get to know the UK through visits and day trips to famous places in England such as London, Stonehenge and Oxford.
You can also go on shorter afternoon or evening events letting you experience what Brighton has to offer.
At the weekends and during the holidays, you can also explore the UK and Europe, with London just a short train journey from Brighton.
If you want to travel to other European countries, Sussex is a great base. We are close to two international airports (Gatwick and Heathrow) the Eurostar, and a short boat journey away from Europe.
