Sussex Inspires Summer School - Tuesday 14 - Thursday 16 July

Learn about our exciting summer events available to those on our Access Programme.

Our summer school is for students who are in their first year at college/sixth form studying A Levels, BTECs, T Levels and other Level 3 qualifications.  

You’ll have the chance to experience student life at our beautiful campus, study a subject of your choice delivered by academics. Throughout the summer school, you will work independently or in small groups on a short, university-level assignment.

Alongside the academic programme, you will attend a variety of fun and informative lectures and workshops, social events on campus and in Brighton to soak up the student experience. You'll stay for two nights in university accommodation, sharing a flat with other attendees, and you'll get to meet current Sussex students studying a wide variety of courses.

Travel, accommodation, food and activities are all included for free.

Available subjects: Law, Politics, Criminology/Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Maths/Physics and Media (subject strand will be confirmed if application is successful).

How to apply

Applying for the University of Sussex Summer School does not guarantee you a place. It is subject to email confirmation from the Sussex Inspires Summer School team.

The deadline for applications is Sunday 17 May 2026. 

You will be notified of the outcome of your application in the week commencing Monday 18 May 2026.

Who we are targeting

Places on the Sussex Inspires summer school are limited, so we give priority to students who:

  • get the 16–19 bursary
  • had free school meals or pupil premium at secondary school
  • have lived in care
  • are from a Gypsy, Roma or Traveller background
  • live in an area where fewer young people go to university
  • are estranged from their parents or guardians
  • are young carers
  • are refugees or asylum seekers.

Key information

If your application is successful, we’ll send you an invite to the summer school in the week commencing 18 May 2026. 

We’ll cover your travel costs — you’ll get your train or bus ticket by email one week before the summer school. 

You’ll also be invited to join our online Unibuddy community, where you can chat with other students, staff, and ambassadors on the lead up to summer school.

Parents or guardians will be kept informed about the summer school; they’ll need to fill out a permission form.

Anyone in the UK can apply, and we can only provide train tickets from London to the University of Sussex (Falmer campus).
