Demystifying Consultancy: What is consultancy and why should MAH staff consider it?
Wednesday 21 October 16:00 until 17:30
University of Sussex Campus : SB302/ Teams Hybrid
Speaker: MAH Innovation and Industry Lead + others
This workshop will introduce MAH staff to the University’s consultancy process and policy, explaining what consultancy is and what MAH-related consultancy work might entail. Led by Innovation and Industry Lead Tanya Kant, the workshop is designed to help MAH staff understand the ways in which the University helps support consultancy or other paid partnership work that researchers might be interested in or invited to partake in through commercial, industry and civic organisations.
We’ll consider the distinction between private consultancy and University consultancy and explore the wide range of work that might fall into these categories (as well as the types of work that doesn’t!). After explaining how Sussex facilitates University consultancy, we will hear from MAH staff who have experience of undertaking consultancy in different disciplines and contexts. We’ll also use some time to discuss the wider challenges and benefits of undertaking impact and engagement work in increasingly resource-strapped media, arts and humanities sectors. Finally we’ll discuss what MAH-specific support researchers and other staff might need in consultancy and partnerships, and how and when to build links with partners for future paid engagements with them.
University consultancy support is available for all staff (anyone on Payroll, including doctoral tutors) so please do come along if you’d like to hear more. If you are planning on attending please email Tanya Kant (t.kant@sussex.ac.uk), ccing in Elena Dennison (e.dennison@sussex.ac.uk), specifying if you will be attending online or in person. If you are interested in attending but cannot make that time / date, please let Tanya and Elena know so they can plan a re-run of the session if there is interest.
