Car Parking Permits 2025/26 update

Last updated: Monday, 18 August 2025

Applications for Parking Permits for the year 2025/26 will open on Monday 1 September.
To give everyone time to renew their permit, permits for the year 2024/25 will be extended by 1 month – they will now expire on Tuesday 30 September, excluding Public Transport Accessibility permits (see below). More details on how to renew your permit will be shared soon.
Not on campus in September? No problem
You can apply for your permit at any time, so don’t worry if you’re away during September – you'll just need to make sure that you have applied for your permit before parking on campus, otherwise standard Visitor Parking charges will apply.
Permit portal temporary closure
The University’s self-service paperless parking portal will be closed from Monday 25 August until Sunday 31 August whilst we undertake maintenance and prepare for the new academic year. If you need to alter your permit during that week, e.g. to change or add a vehicle, please contact the Transport Office.
How does campus parking work?
We operate a paperless parking system. Cameras at campus road entrances take a picture of your vehicle registration when you enter and exit campus.
The first 60-minutes on campus is free of charge, thereafter, parking charges apply whether your vehicle is in a car park, or elsewhere on campus e.g. unloading in front of your accommodation. You must pay parking charges to avoid receiving a Penalty Change Notice.
Parking permit options
We encourage students to use public transport whenever possible, but if you would like to park on campus, the following permits are available:
- Blue Badge Holders: If you hold a valid Blue Badge, you can park on campus for free – please register your vehicle with the Transport Office in advance of parking on campus so that your vehicle can be recorded as being exempt of charges and fines.
- Off-Peak Student Parking Permit: Available to all students and free of charge, this permit is valid overnight from 5pm to 8am on weekdays, and all day at weekends. During working hours, you will need to pay for standard visitor parking.
- Student Parkng Permit: This permit is only available to students who meet the exceptional circumstances criteria. Please note, fees apply for this permit.
Public Transport Accessibility permits
If you currently have a Public Transport Accessibility paperless permit for 2024/25 (for students living a long distance from campus), please be aware that these are not eligible for direct renewal, andmust be applied for again to verify eligibility by address. All Public Transport Accessibility permits will expire as normal at the end of August.
If you do not hold any of the above permits, standard Visitor Parking charges will apply. If you do not pay your parking charge, you will be liable for a Penalty Charge Notice.
