Cosmology (900F3)

Autumn teaching
The module will introduce the fundamental ideas of modern cosmology. Topics will include:
- the cosmological principle and the structure of space-time
- observational quantities: distances and volumes
- the Friedmann equations
- cosmological parameters and classification of world models
- the thermal history of the Universe and the cosmic microwave background
- Big-Bang nucleosynthesis and the origin of the light elements.
We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2026/27. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
